#7 North Carolina vs. #3 Virginia (6:30pm ET Saturday, ESPN)
Led by six-foot-nine senior forward Brice Johnson, the North Carolina Tar Heels beat the Miami Hurricanes Saturday 96-71 as Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead all players in both categories. It was a big win for UNC, who desperately wanted to put behind them their heartbreaking loss to Duke just three days earlier. They followed up with an 80-68 win over NC State as Johnson went 22-11. The ‘Heels are 23-5 overall and sit atop the ACC at 12-3.
The Virginia Cavaliers hope to rebound from a dispiriting loss to Miami on a night when the ‘Canes were deadly from downtown, hitting 10 of 19, while the Cavs hit on just five of 16. Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon was on fire, scoring 28 on 12-of-18, but it wasn’t enough. Virginia is 21-6 overall and 10-5 in the ACC. Given they’ve lost two of their last three, the Cavaliers need to win this game if they don’t want to plummet in the polls heading into Selection Sunday.
