It was a great week for Mountaineers, as they first defeated #13 Iowa State, 81-76, and then #15 Baylor, 80-69. Senior guard Jaysean Paige led the way in scoring with a combined 40 points, and junior forward Devin Williams chipped in with 33 points and 25 boards over the two games. The wins lifted West Virginia to 19-4, and to 8-2 and first place in the Big 12.
The Jayhawks have won three in a row, most recently defeating Texas Christian on Saturday, 75-56, behind senior forward Perry Ellis’ third double-double of the season. Ellis scored 23 points and pulled down 10 boards, and a tough Mountaineer D held the Horned Frogs to 14-of-49 shooting.
The last time these two teams met was January 12, when the then #11 Mountaineers beat the then #1 Jayhawks 74-63, as Paige scored 26 points with 5 steals, and Williams posted 17-12.
