Last night, the Marlins trailed the Padres 6-3 with two out in the 9th inning and a man on first, when Ichiro Suzuki stroked a double down the right field line, thereby taking the crown of Hit King, as he passed Pete Rose for the all-time record for hits in professional baseball at 4,257. Martin Prado would follow with a flyout to right to end the game; DJ LeMahieu singled, doubled and tripled, with 2 runs and 2 RBI in the Rockies 6-3 win over the Yankees; Clayton Kershaw K’ed 11 in 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits as the Dodgers defeated the Diamondbacks 3-2; Johnny Cueto struck out 9 over 7 innings of 1-run ball as the GIants dismantled the Brewers 10-1; Jayson Werth’s 2-out single in the 12th inning capped the Nationals’ rally from a 4-3 deficit to a 5-4 win over the Cubs; Hanley Ramirez hit his first homer in a month, a 3-run shot in the 3rd, to power the Red Sox’ 6-4 win against the Orioles, putting the two teams back in a tie for 1st place in the AL East; Edwin Encarnacion had a homer, 2 walks, and 3 runs scored in the Blue Jays’ 7-2 defeat of the Phillies; Chase d’Arnaud’s bases-loaded single in the 13th lifted the Braves over the Reds 9-8; the Mets beat up on the Pirates 11-2 as Noah Syndergaard fanned 11 over 8 ⅓, and 7 of the Mets had at least 2 hits; Logan Morrison’s bases-loaded walk in the 13th gave the Rays a walkoff win over the Mariners by a score of 3-2; the Cardinals’ bullpen wasted 7 shutout innings from Adam Wainwright, surrendering 2 in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th as the Astros won 4-1; Tim Anderson had 3 hits and scored 3 runs, and Chris Sale notched his 11 win, as the White Sox beat the Tigers 5-3; Corey Kluber’s season of horrors continued as the Indians’ starter gave up 8 runs on 9 hits in just 5 innings against the Royals, who won 9-4; Mike Trout went hitless but still scored 3 runs in the Angels 10-2 win over the Twins; and the Rangers climbed out of a 5-0 hole against the A’s for a 7-5 win powered by a pair of homers by Robinson Chirinos.
