Free Preview: truTV

Mar 14, 2016 by Sling Staff

This month Sling TV is thrilled to present the majority of the games in the 2016 NCAA tournament, airing on TBS, TNT, and truTV. Though TBS and TNT are available to all Best of Live TV subscribers, TruTV is part of the $5 Lifestyle Extra add-on pack – but thru April 12, truTV is offering a free preview, so you can catch all the tournament games, including one of the two “home-announcer” feeds for the NCAA Championship game on April 4.

But there’s a lot of great non-basketball programming on truTV to explore while the channel is free. Here’s a small sample:

Impractical Jokers

truTV launched as a reality-documentary channel, focused on true-crime stuff, but the network has gradually rebranded to a reality-comedy footing, largely on the strength of this show, which features four lifelong friends who’ve dedicated their lives to messing with each other. Add a hidden camera and some unsuspecting strangers, and you’ve got a formula for some big laughs:

Those Who Can’t

truTV’s first scripted series follows three dedicated teachers and a school librarian ( Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl, Ben Roy, and Maria Thayer) as they devote their lives to fostering an ideal learning environment for the benefit of their eager students. Wait, actually it’s the exact opposite of that.

Hack My Life

Life hacks – you know, tips and tricks and shortcuts to do everyday things more easily or more awesomely – are always interesting, whether they work or not. Hosts Kevin Pereira and Brooke Van Poppelen try out hacks submitted by viewers, to wildly varying results.

Rachel Dratch’s Late Night Snack

We don’t know a whole lot about this show yet, as it doesn’t premiere until March 24, but we do know that it is a collection of short-form comedy pieces contributed by the likes of established personalities like Alec Baldwin and up-and-coming comedians. We’ll let you know if we get an advance peek, but Celebrity Storytelling, narrated in this case by Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice star Kate Walsh is pretty funny:
